The prefilters are the parts that come out most often; the membrane is the one that finally needs replacing after a few years of them doing their job.
• HOW THE STAGES WORK TOGETHER - The pre-filter runs first and reduces chlorine before the water reaches the membrane, which matters because chlorine reaching a thin film composite membrane shortens its working life. The membrane then reduces total dissolved solids. The post filter sits last, after the membrane and storage tank, and finishes the taste on the way to the faucet.
• SHIPPED AS A 50 GPD UPGRADE - The element supplied is 50 GPD, a direct fit for the lower-rated positions it replaces. It is the same 1812 size in the same housing. A system still running the drain-line flow restrictor it was built with behaves as it did before; if the restrictor has been changed, match it to the membrane output.
• PART NUMBERS AND SYSTEMS - Fits FX12M, FX12P, GXRM10RBL, GXRM10G, PNRV12, GXRV10, HDLORF4 and TFM-18 positions, and replaces AG1812TAE, 1616426, MEM-ES-50, TW30-1812-50, TFC-1812-50, W-1812-50 and TFM-50. Membrane is the standard 1812 element size, 11.75 by 1.75 inches, for housings with a 2 inch internal diameter.
• KNOW WHEN TO CHANGE WHAT - The prefilters go on the shorter cycle and the membrane on the longer one, and keeping to the prefilter schedule is what lets the membrane reach its full life. Rising TDS at the faucet or a tank that takes noticeably longer to fill is the signal the membrane itself is finished.
