Compressed carbon block holds the media in a fixed bed so water passes through it evenly rather than finding low-resistance paths, and the 5 micron rating sets how fine a particle the block holds. Standard 2.5 by 9.75 inch cartridges with polypropylene netting, rated to 125 psi and 40 to 180 degrees F.
• BUY THE SERVICE, NOT THE CHANGE – A UF50 class system takes two cartridges at a time, so twelve covers roughly six years of scheduled changes for one system, or a season of work if you service several. Per cartridge this is the lowest cost tier on this listing. Cartridges store indefinitely in their sealed wrap, so there is no penalty for having the next few changes already on the shelf.
• REDUCES CHLORINE, TASTE AND ODOR – The carbon stage reduces chlorine along with the tastes and smells that come with it. It also protects what sits behind it: chlorine shortens reverse osmosis membrane life more than anything else in normal household water, so keeping these cartridges fresh is what lets a membrane reach its full service life. This pack is cartridges only — there is no membrane and no housing wrench.
