About This

• The sediment guard for UV systems. A UV lamp only works in clear water: particles cast shadows and let whatever is behind them pass through untreated. This 5 micron grooved cartridge captures sand, silt and rust ahead of the UV chamber, which is what keeps the lamp doing its job.
• It also keeps the quartz sleeve cleaner. The sleeve is the glass tube around the lamp, and anything that settles on it blocks light the same way a shadow does. Sediment reaching the chamber means more frequent sleeve cleaning, which is a considerably more awkward job than changing a cartridge.
• A direct replacement for CMB-510-HF cartridges in IHS12-D4 and similar whole house UV systems. Grooved profile in the standard 10 by 4.5 inch big blue size, so it also fits any other housing built around that cartridge regardless of the name on the sump.
• The grooved surface adds filter area compared with a plain cylinder of the same dimensions, so sediment collects across more of the face and the cartridge holds more before your flow starts to drop. On a UV system that matters twice over, because falling flow and a shadowed lamp are both problems.
• Change the prefilter on schedule rather than waiting, because on a UV system the cost of running long is not just reduced flow. Typically every three to six months depending on your supply.
